Ascending triangle

A flat resistance line with rising lows underneath, usually seen as a continuation pattern.

Chart PatternsIntermediate

Definition

Buyers keep paying higher prices on each dip while sellers hold the same ceiling. The squeeze between the two lines ends when price breaks out, most often in the direction of the prior trend. Volume tends to shrink inside the triangle and expand on the break.

Watch out for

Triangles can break either way, and false breaks are common. Many traders wait for a closing break with volume.
