Enterprise value (EV)

A company's total value including its debt, net of its cash.

FundamentalsIntermediate

Definition

Market cap only counts the equity. Enterprise value adds debt and subtracts cash, so it represents the price of buying the whole business. It is used in multiples like EV/EBITDA and EV/sales.

Formula

EV = market cap + debt - cash
