Some brokers let you invest a dollar amount, such as $50, and buy the matching slice of a share. It makes expensive stocks accessible and makes regular fixed-dollar investing easy.

Watch out for

Not every broker or stock supports them, and fractional positions may not transfer to another broker as fractions.
