Momentum

The speed and strength of a price move.

Definition

Stocks that have been rising tend to keep rising over some periods, and falling ones keep falling. This is called the momentum effect. Indicators like RSI and MACD measure it.

Watch out for

Momentum can reverse sharply, especially when many traders hold the same position.
