Definition

Sentiment shows up in surveys, positioning data, the VIX, put/call ratios and the tone of news. Extremes in either direction are sometimes read as contrarian signs.

Watch out for

Sentiment can stay extreme for a long time. Measures describe mood, not what happens next.
