Fibonacci extension

Levels projected beyond a prior move, used as possible price targets.

Market TheoriesIntermediate

Definition

After a trend resumes, traders extend the prior swing with ratios such as 1.272, 1.618 and 2.618. The idea is to mark where a move may meet resistance or where profits might be taken.

Watch out for

There is no proven reason these levels work other than that many traders watch them.
