Definition
A buy limit fills at your price or lower. A sell limit fills at your price or higher. You control the price, but the order may never fill if the market does not reach it.
How it is used
Limit orders avoid paying more than intended, especially in fast or thin markets and in extended hours.
Watch out for
Price protection comes at the cost of certainty. A stock can run past your limit and never fill.
