Spring (Wyckoff)

A brief dip below support at the end of accumulation that quickly reverses.

Market TheoriesAdvanced

Definition

In Wyckoff's framework, a spring tests whether sellers are exhausted: price drops under the range's floor, fails to follow through and returns inside. It is a failed breakdown, similar to a bear trap.

Watch out for

A dip below support that continues lower is a real breakdown. Springs can only be identified once the reversal has already happened.
