Accumulation (Wyckoff)

In Wyckoff's model, the phase where large buyers gradually build a position in a quiet, sideways market.

Market TheoriesAdvanced

Definition

Wyckoff described accumulation as a base after a decline in which price moves sideways on lower volatility while larger participants buy. It ends when demand clearly overcomes supply and price leaves the range. The idea is a framework for reading charts, not something you can see directly.

Watch out for

Telling accumulation from a pause before more decline is only possible with hindsight. The framework is subjective.
