Short interest

The number of a stock's shares that have been sold short and not yet bought back.

Market Structure & FlowBeginner

Definition

It is usually shown as a percent of the float. In the US it is reported twice a month, with a delay of several days. A high percentage means many traders expect a decline, and it also means there is potential for a squeeze if the price rises.

Watch out for

It is delayed, so the figure may be out of date. Pair it with days to cover and price action.
