Definition
A liquid market has many buyers and sellers, tight spreads and large volume, so trades fill quickly at predictable prices. An illiquid one has few participants, wide spreads and price jumps on modest orders.
How it is used
Check average volume and the spread before trading a name, particularly small caps and options.
